Delphinus philosophy: freediving as a way of life

DELPHINUS means “dolphin”, and of course this incredible creature inspires and motivates everything we do here. Dolphins are a symbol of absolute freedom, power, grace and flow; they are creatures with their own language, extraordinary social abilities and the absolute kings of the ocean.

“Imagine for a moment that you are a dolphin, free to live life and go wherever you want, according to what you feel. A dolphin slumbers in all of us. The man who descends into the depths of the sea holding his breath is the same as an aquatic mammal.”

“Homo Delphinus will be a species that understands it is not separate from nature or from the ocean. It will know that from the microbe to the whale there is no superior or inferior creature; everything is connected. I do not see the sea as a frontier to conquer, a new territory to exploit. I see it as the primordial element. I am the sea.” Jacques Mayol.

This journey began at a very early age, as soon as I could open my eyes and contemplate the world — the Colombian Pacific Ocean, to be exact, on the beautiful coast of San Andrés de Tumaco. Throughout my life, my connection with the underwater world has been in constant evolution. From my childhood learning to scuba dive with my father, to spearfishing and my later interest in breath-hold diving from my home, Santa Marta, every step has contributed to my development as a freediver. In 2002, while I was progressing through my advanced diving course, I made the definitive decision to formally enter the world of freediving.

That same year marked the creation of Club Delphinus, a milestone that coincided with the opportunity to work as a volunteer with the local dolphins. These events not only left a deep mark on my life, they also laid the foundations for the initiatives that would follow.

Since the club was founded, I have led a range of initiatives, from workshops for young people in recreational and competitive freediving, to environmental initiatives and the organization of national freediving festivals. I was also an active member of the board of AIDA COLOMBIA, contributing to the growth and development of freediving in the country.

My journey did not stop at national borders; I took my passion for freediving to the international level, offering retreats that combine yoga and freediving in magical places. Over time, my efforts have focused on spreading freediving knowledge through specialized workshops, culminating in my current preparation of international certifications as a freediving instructor. This journey has been more than an exploration of the depths; it has been a continuous commitment to personal growth and to sharing freediving as an exciting lifestyle that can bring wellbeing and health to anyone in a unique way never seen before, with the ocean as the main medium and our own inner ocean, our being, as the vehicle.

We are cetaceans, we are aquatic mammals… we are DELPHINUS.
